Welcome to m0ns00n's AROS BLOG!

I've just implemented two extra export options in Lunapaint, one using datatypes and another just a 32bit RAW format for use in games and other things. I noticed that AROS doesn't have PNG saving through datatypes. Saving using a datatype also showed to be a bit wierd at first glance, but then again, yesterday was the first time ever I did it. If anyone out there wants to do me a favour, then start implememting datatype writing for as many image formats as you can! :-)

I'm learning allot about programming AROS now. More and more. At the same time I see that there is a huge need for tutorials and documentation. So much to do! I think this is what many AROS developers think almost every day. So much to do! We need developers! =) If you know how to code in C then please, get involved now!

I managed to bring down my Aros system for a few days, but nothing is lost! I used a bad boot iso and then managed to misuse it with ignorance and bad resoning ;-). Anyway, my AROS system is now restored and upgraded, so all is well. I have started on the datatype import and export window in Lunapaint plus started looking into how to open up a nice public screen. As I understand it, not all the MUI functionality for this is implemented in Zune, but there are intuition workarounds. I'm gonna try to track down some bits from the net and start implementing! Actually, once you get into it, coding for Zune is not that hard at all. I have found myself liking it more and more. It is straight forward and had no layers upon layers that I need to peel off to extend the base functionality. When dev.aros-exec.org is revealed to the world, I'll try to remember making some Zune tutorials.

A couple of weeks ago my disk containing the CMS system and other files which will be used for dev.aros-exec.org got improsoned on a bad harddrive. I managed to resurrect it and all the data was recovered. I've put all of it on my workstation and I'm now coding on the various modules which needs work. This blog will start using the CMS as soon as it's operational. In the mean time, I'll keep posting this way.

Was quite fun by the way to notice some minor improvements in the latest AROS codebase. I could now refresh the wanderer desktop and see my inserted cd, and remove the cd and refresh to see the icon disappear. Also, I could create a new drawer in both Ram: and on my SFS disks, which would actually give me some visual feedback, the window redrawed showing the newly created drawer! All the small things that make me excited =) - AROS is maturing.

AROS is making great progress! I've not been this exited in years. I kinda feel the good old Amiga spirit is returning to me! I've run AROS i386 Native now for the last few weeks while developing Lunapaint, and the experience has been completely positive. At first I had no sound, but what do you expect - it's a relatively new OS in many respects, and has few developers that make hardware drivers. But after getting hold of a Sound Blaster card, my computer was playing mp3s and all was good.

Today I'm trying to organize my projects a bit. Lunapaint is my main project, but the enthusiasm is getting hold of me and I'm planning new software every day! I've been discussing with some fellow arosians and we're gonna put our efforts together and make something surprizing. More will be revealed soon.

Things are accelerating in AROS land, and we are moving ahead. If you are a developer and want to join the AROS project in some way or the other, please contact me on hogga at sub-ether dot org and I'll point you the right way.
